Lafayette again wins top honor for financial reporting

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — For the third consecutive year, the city of Lafayette obtained the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Information; the highest form of recognition in government accounting and financial reporting.

The certificate was awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. This award represents a significant achievement by a government agency and its management.

“The GFOA Financial Reporting Achievement Award is a remarkable recognition for the City of Lafayette,” said Jeremy Diehl, Comptroller for the City of Lafayette, in a statement. “This achievement represents the highest honor in government financial reporting. The leadership of our public servants and the dedication of our employees makes this recognition very gratifying.

This award is decided by an impartial panel where whether Lafayette has met the high standards or not is determined. One aspect of these standards is a “spirit of full disclosure,” where a government clearly communicates its financial history.

The price was based on Lafayette’s financial data submitted for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2020.

“I’m very proud of the daily performance of our City Comptroller’s Office,” said Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski. “This recognition is a testament to the continued financial service they provide to our citizens in regards to the transparency of our tax expenditures for the City of Lafayette.”
