LAHORE: Former Chief Minister Usman Buzdar posted a ‘missing alert’ on social media on Saturday to ‘locate’ Punjab’s finance minister, who is expected to prepare and present the provincial budget for 2022-23 on Monday (tomorrow) .
Sharing a fake advertisement on his Twitter account, in which the photo space was left bank, Mr Buzdar asked readers to “contact the Punjab Assembly, if you have any information about the Minister of Finance”, who has “disappeared since April of this year”. ”.
Through the tweet, Mr Buzdar attempted to settle accounts with the now-governing PML-N politicians who had called him a “puppet” whose Punjab government was run from Bani Gala (the private residence of Imran Khan).
Since Hamza Shehbaz was elected chief minister on April 16, the PML-N government has been under the control of the PTI and has been criticized from time to time.
The PTI alleges that due to the internal difference of the PML-N, the party has been unable to assign portfolios to members of its “hitherto small” cabinet despite the passage of 11 days since the ministers were sworn in.
In response to PML-N’s taunts that Buzdar’s government was run from Bani Gala, PTI Punjab Chairman Dr. Yasmin Rashid said that the establishment of PML-N was controlled from Jati Umra (residence of Maryam Nawaz) and London, likening it to the rule of the East India Company.
According to her, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz practically runs the Punjab government of Hamza Shehbaz and she even intervenes in the allocation of portfolios to ministers, in addition to transfers and assignments of officers.
Recently, in a leaked audio clip attributed to Maryam Nawaz, the Vice President of PML-N could be heard saying that she was handling government media affairs.
Referring to PML-N criticism that former governor Umer Sarfraz Cheema was not ready to swear in ministers, delaying cabinet formation by nearly two weeks, PTI leaders say the task was not still not finished despite the fact that the PML-N has its current governor. , attributing it to divisions within the PML-N and with its coalition partner, notably the PPP.
A PML-N insider said the party’s vice president, Maryam Nawaz, wants to have a say in the formation of the cabinet, especially in the allocation of portfolios. Citing an example, the source claims that Ms Nawaz wants the Ministry of Information for her favorite Azma Bokhari, while CM Hamza wants Attaullah Tarar in the seat.
Similarly, the source says, the PPP with seven seats in the Punjab Assembly is interested in the Finance and Communication and Works portfolios, but junior Sharif wants to retain these important functions within his party.
Another PML-N source said on Saturday Dawn that the issue of the Ministry of Finance was resolved with the PPP and the former was allowed to take the portfolio. “Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman will probably be the finance minister and present the budget on Monday,” the source said, adding that notification in this regard is expected soon.
Governor of Punjab, Balighur Rehman has announced that the annual budget of Punjab for the financial year 2022-23 and the supplementary budget for the current financial year 2021-22 will be presented on June 13 (Monday) during the 40th session in course of the Punjab Assembly.
