ATC Mason Wins Major Awards for Financial Reporting by Tracy Calentti

San Bernardino County Auditor-Comptroller / Treasurer / Tax Collector Ensen Mason has been told his office has won three prestigious financial reporting awards. The Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for the Complete Annual Financial Report (ACFR) and the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting (PAFR) are awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). In addition, ATC Mason receives the State Comptroller Award for Reporting County Financial Transactions on behalf of California State Comptroller Betty T. Yee. The three awards will be presented to Mr. Mason and staff at an upcoming Supervisory Board meeting in January 2022.

“I am honored to receive notification that my office will receive these awards,” commented ATC Mason. “As Auditor-Comptroller / Treasurer / Tax Collector, my priority is to ensure that county financial records are presented in an easily accessible and understandable manner. This annual compilation of detailed financial information is truly a team effort, and I would like to sincerely thank Assistant Chief Controller Vanessa Doyle and her team of Divisional Controllers for their hard work and dedication in serving the residents of County of San Bernardino.

The GFOA established the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting program in 1945, and it gained wide recognition as the premier national indicator of excellence in government accounting and financial reporting. This is the 33rd consecutive year that ATC has received this prestigious award. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in government accounting and financial reporting, and obtaining it represents a significant achievement for a government and its leadership.

This award is given to state and local governments that prepare annual financial reports that exceed the requirements of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), while also preparing specific ACFRs that demonstrate the spirit of transparency and full disclosure. ATC’s ACFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and customers. user groups to read the ACFR.

The Popular Annual Financial Reporting Awards program was established in 1991 by the GFOA. This is the 15th consecutive year that ATC has received this award, recognizing ATC’s efforts to develop a popular, high-quality annual report designed to be easily accessible and easily understood by the general public.

Finally, California State Comptroller Betty T. Yee awards ATC the State Comptroller Award for County Financial Transaction Reports for achieving the highest standard in accounting and reporting.
